Xulhaz Mannan is a friend of mine
EuroPride House, mån 30 jul 15:00–15:45
Xulhaz Mannan founded the first and only LGBTQ-magazine in Bangladesh and was brutally murdeered for his activism in 2016. Obdyr Pahman Panna, LGBTQI-activist from Bangladesh and a friend of Xulhaz tells the story of the Bangladesh LGBTQI-movement and the fight for their most basic human rights to live and love.
In 2014 Xulhaz Mannan founded the first LGBTQ-magazine in Bangladesh, Roopbaan, and the Bangladesh LGBT-community grew and became visible in society. In 2016 this short spring for equal rights ended with the brutal murder of Xulhaz Mannan. This was followed by more extremistic murdeers and forced disaperances, making the activists leave the country or be forced to go underground.
Obdyr Pahman Panna, LGBTQI-activist from Bangladesh and a friend of Xulhaz, talks about his personal experience from the Bangladesh LGBTQ-community and their lack of human rights. He shows pictures and video fotagee from the Bangladesh LGBTQ-communitys partys and activism.
Amnesty International launced a world wide campaign to bring attention to the situation in Bangladesh, calling for LGBTQ-rights in Bangladesh and that the killers of Xulhaz Mannan should be brought to justice.
